The Emerald Ash Borer is an exotic beetle that was discovered in the summer of 2002 in Michigan. The insect probably arrived in the USA in wood packing materials from cargo shipped from its native area of Asia.

Emerald Ash Borer is active in Indiana and surrounding states so NOW is the time to protect your trees from this pest. Every ash tree in the area will be effected by the borer. If your tree is still reasonable healthy and more than 70% of the canopy still has leaves, a preventative insecticide treatment can help save the tree. There is a cost for treatment, a cost to remove a dead tree and the cost of aesthetic or environmental value of losing a tree. Treatments must be reapplied as long as you want to keep the ash tree alive.
The adult beetle chews on the leaf foliage, but does little damage. The larva (borer) causes the damage by feeding on the inside of the ash tree, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients throughout the tree. This causes branches to die and eventually the entire tree. Most ash trees lose 30 to 50% of the canopy in the first two years of infestation and die within 3 to 4 years if left untreated. |

The following signs and symptom are associated with Emerald Ash Borer infestations:
D shaped holes in trunk or branches: Borer entry holes.
Crown dieback: tree shows dead branches beginning at the top.
Sprouting: Trees may produce excessive suckers at the base and trunk of tree.
Bark Splits: Vertical splits in the bark caused by callus tissue where larva galleries were present.
Woodpecker feeding or other animals clawing at tree bark: Woodpeckers and other animals locate and feed on the emerald ash borer larva under the bark.

Losing trees can be visually and emotionally devastating to our environment and surroundings. Be proactive, take steps to protect your tree, your landscape and your investment.
Research has shown that one Tree-age insecticide treatment can protect an ash tree for up to 2 years against the Emerald Ash Borer. Tree-age can only be applied by a licensed professional.
We have the Arbor Jet injection system to apply the Tree-age and are licensed.
